Journey of Faith Construction Update

We are grateful to share continued progress on the Journey of Faith Project, which is being developed to address the catechetical needs of St. Thomas Mount National Shrine Basilica. As the birthplace and cradle of the Christian faith in India, with nearly 2,000 years of rich history, this sacred site holds deep spiritual significance.
Construction began last month and has reached several important early milestones. The framework of the Entrance Arch is now in place, marking the beginning of what will become the main gateway into the Journey of Faith. This entrance is being designed as a powerful catechetical space, where pilgrims will ultimately enter through a large Cross symbolizing Salvation.
In future phases, the entrance area will house a display of 100 Bibles in various languages, reflecting the universality of God’s Word, along with a small exhibition depicting important events in the History of Salvation. These elements will trace the journey of faith in the Old Testament and culminate in the Cross, the summit of Salvation, as fulfilled in Jesus Christ in the New Testament.
Beyond the entrance, the four quadrants of the cross shaped layout have taken form, with concrete roofing now completed. These structures form the foundation of the concrete path that will guide pilgrims through the Journey of Faith and the Journey of Hope assured by Jesus Himself. Work is currently underway on the central walkway connecting the four quadrants, helping to unify the space and shape the pilgrim experience.

As with any active construction project, all elements remain a work in progress. Final designs, layouts, and finishes may differ from original renderings due to site conditions, material availability, and practical construction considerations.
